Dual Source System

Onboard Pickup/Microphone Mixing System

baggs_ds_instal (43174 bytes)

baggs_ds (19138 bytes)

The Dual Source System is a miniature onboard microphone/pickup mixing system that features all discrete Class A circuitry. The DS seamlessly combines our high-tech Ribbon Transducer™ with a high quality FET condenser capsule for an affordable, simple-to-use one cord mix.

The Pickup: The Ribbon Transducer is a thin, flexible undersaddle microphone for acoustic instruments.  The key characteristic that sets our transducer apart from the pack is that our sensor material is configured to be responsive to vibration but not to pressure. Consequently, there are no limits to its dynamic range and it effortlessly tracks the vibrations of the guitar top. And, because it does not respond to pressure, the dry, stringy sound characteristic of pressure sensitive pickups is eliminated. When you experience it you will have a hard time believing it's really a pickup.

The Microphone: The Dual Source mic is a high quality omni-directional FET condenser capsule encased in a small block of acoustically transparent foam. It mounts easily on the back of the inside of the guitar with Velcro. It is designed to use the entire back surface as a "pressure zone." This minimizes the effect of standing waves and hot spots inside of the guitar. Consequently, the sound is closer to that of an outside microphone than with other internal mic placements. This location also gives increased protection against feedback.

Double Barrel

The Double Barrel™ is a micro-miniature, all discrete Class A dual channel microphone/pickup system that is built right onto our 4-Pin strapjack. It pairs the Ribbon Transducer with a high quality FET condenser microphone and features solderless installation. The Double Barrel Preamp provides power for the microphone and makes expensive outboard preamps with phantom power unnecessary. The ready-to-go pickup and mic signals plug into any outboard gear, such as a mixing board, by simply using a stereo "Y" cable. With a regular mono cord, the buffered pickup is available on the tip contact of the jack as if the mic were not there. Each channel of the DB preamp is tuned for the RT and the microphone so, whether you choose mono or stereo, you can just plug in and sound great.

The Pickup

The Ribbon Transducer is a thin, flexible undersaddle microphone for acoustic instruments. The high-tech RT, manufactured to ISO 9001 specs, is comprised of a micro-thin layer of PVDF polymer sensor material that is laminated between layers of Kapton and then laser trimmed to its final dimensions. The key characteristic that sets our transducer apart from the pack is that our sensor material is configured to be responsive to vibration but not to pressure. Consequently, there are no limits to its dynamic range as it effortlessly tracks the vibrations of the guitar top. And, because it does not respond to pressure, the dry, stringy sound characteristic of pressure sensitive pickups is eliminated. When you experience it you will have a hard time believing it’s really a pickup.

The Microphone

The mic is the same high quality, omni-directional, FET condenser capsule that we use in our heralded Dual Source. It is encased in a small block of acoustically transparent foam and mounts easily on the back of the inside of the guitar with Velcro®. It is designed to use the entire back surface of the guitar as a "pressure zone" or collector. This minimizes the effect of standing waves and hot spots inside of the guitar. Consequently, the sound is closer to that of an outside microphone than with other internal mic placements. This location also gives increased protection against feedback.
